What is sex and relationship therapy?
As we practice it, sex and relationship therapy is focused upon positively transforming the emotional, physical, spiritual, and
relationship issues that keep you from having the deeply fulfilling relationship and sex life that you desire and deserve. Based upon
your particular history, needs and goals, Dr. David Roth works with you to build the capacity for more rewarding intimacy, greater
pleasure, and a happier, more meaningful life.

Can you coach me (or me and my partner) to make my (or our) relationship/sex life better?
Yes. In fact, this is something we really enjoy doing. It’s always rewarding.

I’m a woman. What sorts of problems can you help with?
A wide variety. Among women common issues include low sexual desire, the inability to reach orgasm, aversion to sex, painful sex,
communication conflicts, improving sexual self-esteem, body image, sexual identity/preference conflict, adult virginity, compulsive
sexual behaviors, love and sex addiction,
persistent sexual arousal, high libido, and a variety of more complex issues.

I’m a man. What sorts of problems can you help with?
Many. Among men common concerns are early ejaculation, delayed ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, performance anxiety, low sex
drive, persistent arousal
, high libido, relationship communication conflicts, improving sexual self-esteem, body image and penis
size, sexual identity/preference conflict, adult virginity, compulsive sexual behaviors/sex addiction and a variety of issues that are
more complex.

What other sorts of concerns cause people to seek your help?
Feelings of shame and guilt, a history or feelings of rejection or abandonment, secret affairs, anonymous and dangerous sex,
voyeurism, exhibitionism, fear of intimacy, having “no time” for sex, chronic masturbation that is troubling, fetishes and BDSM,
zoophilia/bestiality, and more.

But I’m not your garden-variety heterosexual. Can you help me?
Absolutely. We work with people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer and questioning, and those they know and love. We
also work with people who are transgender/intersex.

What about those  struggling with the effects of aging or medical issues such as chronic disease, cancer, or physical
disabilities?

We have had considerable success in these areas. Contact us. Chances are very good that we can help.

I don’t see my particular problem listed here.
That simply means it’s not on the
short list posted here. You should contact us and briefly describe your situation and concerns.
Chances are we can help. If we can, we will. If we think we can’t, we’ll help you find someone who can.

I’m concerned that my faith (or spirituality) may not be respected—but I really could use help with my sex life.
Dr. Roth has more than 30 years’ experience working with people from a broad range of faith group backgrounds,
including those
who are very committed to their faith,
as well as those who are "spiritual but not religious." Our integral intimacy approach to
therapy takes your beliefs, meaning and purpose in life seriously.

I have conflicts between what I believe and what I do. I struggle. Is there any hope for me?
Yes. Simply, yes there is. Contact us.

How do you handle alternative lifestyles?
With respect and considerable experience. Contact us with particulars about you.

I’m kinky and don’t want to be “cured” but I do have deeper issues. Can you help?
Sometimes people who are involved in bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadism, masochism, and other kinds of
activities that are n
ot mainstream fail to get help. Do not let yourself be one of those whose deep, emotional issues are
overshadowed by their kink behaviors or lifestyle. If you
believe you need help, please contact us.

I’m into some pretty weird stuff. Can you still help me?
Everyone defines weird stuff differently. We have considerable experience working with people whose experiences and desires are
extreme. We’re not going to be shocked.

Do you work with those who are polygamous/in plural marriages?
Yes, we do.

What about polyamory?
Dr. Roth is experienced working with polyamorous people and polyamory issues.

I was raped and I don’t feel I’d be comfortable talking with a man about sex. Do you know someone who can help me?
Dr. Roth typically works with rape survivors in tandem with Asha Allen, MSW. However, if you want an outside referral, we can refer
you.

Do you use surrogates?  I think I need one right away.
Reputable sexual/relationship surrogates work very closely with a clinically trained therapist to achieve specific aims. There are
some sex and relationship issues that
cannot effectively be addressed without a partner, and there are some people whose issues
prevent them from having
or keeping a committed partner. Especially in these cases a surrogate may be very helpful if not
essential.

I’m too shy or embarrassed to talk with someone—but I need help. What can I do?
Let us know that you are shy or embarrassed. That’s a place to start.

I don’t want anyone else to know that I’m coming to see you. Will I be sitting in a waiting room?
No. There is always a time between appointments and you will not be kept waiting.

Where is Dr. Roth’s office?
About five years ago, Dr. Roth realized that the environment in which therapy is conducted has an impact on its speediness and
effectiveness. That’s when he moved into an in-home office. Shortly thereafter he began doing house calls for certain clients in New
York City. Now in Phoenix, he sees people at his home on 22nd Street in the Squaw Peak neighborhood. For your privacy, the
address is not published but given only to
actual therapy clients. For a those who for a variety of reasons cannot come to him, Dr.
Roth still makes house calls.

What days and hours does Dr. Roth see patients/clients?
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in Phoenix. He also has special hours for house calls and he does Weekend Intensives.

I don’t live in Phoenix but I think seeing someone might be what I need. What are my options?
Dr. Roth conducts individualized Weekend Intensives in places besides Phoenix, especially to get the therapy process going. For
those who are not in the Phoenix area he
also does therapy over the Internet by Skype. For those in Southern California he usually
also sees them face-to-face about every two months. Contact him for more details.

How long is a session?
Typically a full 60-minute hour. Sometimes when working with couples/partners together we find a continuous hour and a half to be
significantly more productive. Weekend Intensives can be conducted over one to three days as a sort of sex and relationship mini-
retreat.

How many visits do you think I will need?
It all depends. Dr. Roth doesn’t believe in keeping anyone in therapy any longer than necessary. At the same time, many "quick
fixes" seem to help fail in the long run. The only way to get an idea of how much help you might need and how long you'll be in
therapy is to come in for an assessment. Be assured that we’re as committed to getting you out of therapy as you are.

What if I just want to talk with you to get some ideas about how to spice things up?
We love to help people to build ever more pleasurable, rewarding, exciting, interesting and meaningful lives. If this sounds like
something you're interested in, we’d love to help.

Will you take my insurance?
Unfortunately, we do not take insurance and, sadly, over the past few years fewer and fewer insurers have reimbursed self-filed
claims. We accept payment by check or cash at the time of each session.
