The Center for Relationships and Sexuality

As a curious teen I first became seriously interested in relationships and
sexuality when I discovered Dr. Alex Comfort’s book The Joy of Sex. While
studying sociocultural anthropology at Temple University I found an old
library copy of Malinowski’s classic The Sexual Life of Savages, couldn't put it
down, and my professional interest in sexuality was secured.
I received my post-graduate training in sex and relationship therapy at
Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/UMDNJ under Dr. Sandra Leiblum
and completed a fellowship year in psychoanalysis at the Psychoanalytic
Institute, NYU School of Medicine / NYU Medical Center. I also completed a
residency in clinical pastoral care at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown,
PA, where I began my to integrate sexuality and spirituality as a clinical
specialty. I received my doctorate in theology/spirituality, from the
Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas in Rome in 1990.
I am a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors
and Therapists; the convener of the Nautilus Pacific Chapter of the College
of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy; and an elected fellow of the
Royal Anthropological Institute. I was formerly a facilitator at Robert
Wood Johnson Medical School’s annual Human Sexuality Week that trains
medical students and other clinicians.
Besides my work in the areas of relationships and sexuality, and in clinical
spiritual care, I have written and co-written a number of books on health,
diet and fitness as well as military and public affairs (I'm a former Army
officer). Presently, I'm working on a book about intimacy and a first novel.
It's no secret that I miss New York City life but I'm an avid hiker who loves
the Phoenix area and the desert Southwest. I'm planning an ascent of
Africa's highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro, with friends in 2012.
